New Kern 130 / Kern 141 Cutting Lines at the Karlsruhe Tax Office

The new Kern 130 / Kern 141 Cutting Line is a roll-to-stack solution for online or offline applications. It was specially developed to address the needs of the graphics market. The success with which the machine has been sold, particularly to print service providers and data processing centres, is therefore all the more gratifying.

To date, Kern has been able to position the Cutting Line extremely well, selling it successfully throughout Europe. Installations can be found both in the transactional field and in book production, confirming that the system is uniquely suited to meet the demands of both market sectors.

Since January 2016, two Kern 130 / Kern 141 Cutting Lines are in operation at the Oberfinanzdirektion (OFD) in Karlsruhe, Germany. This inland revenue office has been using Kern systems for approximately 20 years. Hans Gerhardt, who was production manager of the OFD's printing and mailing centre, and who commissioned the two Cutting Lines before his retirement in April 2016, emphasized: "Kern's products fulfil our requirements."

The OFD's printing and mailing centre produces approximately 160 million DIN A4 pages annually for the entire state of Baden-Württemberg. Around 60 million of these pages are cut by Kern machines.

Consisting of a Kern 130 Rotary Cutter and a Kern 141 Stacking Module, as well as an innovative and precise feeding system, the Cutting Line produces neat stacks of sheets in a variety of sizes. The cutter's rotary blade enables speeds of up to 200 metres per minute. Thus, the Cutting Line is one of the fastest on the market.

The Kern Rotary Cutter is able to process from one to four tracks and combines two-up cutting with merging. Regardless of whether the cutter is employed online or offline, its cutting-edge technology provides for maximum flexibility and speed in the fields of transactional and transpromo printing, direct marketing and book production. This is the reason why the OFD in Karlsruhe prefers this cutter.

At Domino Printing Sciences' exhibit at drupa 2016 (hall 5a, booth A23), Kern has successfully demonstrated the online unit in combination with a bookbinding line. As of July 2016 this system can also be seen at the Horizon Academy in Quickborn, Germany.
